THE CHOICE OF THE CLINIC
We made contact fairly quickly with several clinics to compare, be sure to make the right choice and be ready to get started quickly when needed, so as not to waste time.
Our agency put us in touch with a clinic, so we were able to benefit from a free skype. Otherwise, most charge between 150 and 300 Canadian dollars for the first consultation call.
There are a large number of fertility clinics in Canada, so sometimes it's hard to navigate and know what they are worth.
Here are the main clinics used by international couples (and what we know about them).
> REPROMED (Toronto)
This is the clinic we worked with. We had a very good initial contact and the whole process went well since our donor donated her oocytes there, the same for IVF with our carrier.
They can make progress on communication (they have to deal with a lot of couples ...) but in any case they were reactive and efficient at the most important times and everything went well since our son was born 😊
Beyond the reputation, we chose this clinic for what we found to be good value for money (in addition to the geography, which was not a hindrance for our donor or carrier).
Do not hesitate to contact them on behalf of Sebastien and Julien from Paris (always good to contact by being recommended, it helps everyone).
> CREATE (Toronto)
It is the most “ popular », The best known among international couples, so they know very well how to manage a long-distance relationship. This is the first clinic we contacted, through our agency. We had a very good contact ! We did not follow up as it was a bit over our budget and the waiting times were a bit long.

Very good contact with the doctor, he seemed very professional and organized to us and it was the cheapest clinic in principle, they have a good reputation, but they applied, when we contacted them, a policy of "sperm quarantine". »For several months (to avoid the risk of infection).
That is, they keep the sperm in quarantine before using the sperm with oocytes to make embryos. This is an information to take into account because it can delay the whole process, depending on when the donation is made!
Please note: this clinic was bought a few months ago by PCRM (see above), so the operation is necessarily different (and the prices too).

Clinique sérieuse, de bonne réputation avec un très bon niveau de communication avec les parents d'intention internationaux et qui fonctionne comme Create (avec des packages tarifaires) mais avec des tarifs moins élevés.
> PCRM (Vancouver and Edmonton)
This is the clinic we went through for the start of our second journey. So far we have embryos there (Edmonton clinic) waiting to be ready for the next step. We had great contact with them, the communication was excellent, they were professional and the prices were average.
Attention, important: they require parents to physically move to sign the contracts at each stage (egg donation and embryo transfer). We had an exemption by insisting, because of Covid-19 but they have a fairly strict operating process so do your research!

The paid consultation was organized by phone (no skype) and the doctor sent it a bit… Feedback on the forums is a bit mixed. Apparently it's a bit of a factory and no real personalized attention. It's the feedback we got but it's hard to really know.
NOS CONSEILS
>Pour faire le choix de la clinique, il faut bien sûr prendre en compte les tarifs (car il peut y avoir de grosses différences), la réputation ou encore l’expérience de travailler avec des couples internationaux. Mais il y a d’autres considérations, comme par exemple la géographie. Il peut en effet parfois être une bonne idée de choisir sa clinique en fonction du lieu de vie de la donneuse et de la porteuse. Certaines donneuses ou porteuses peuvent être réticentes à l’idée de traverser le Canada d’est en ouest pour se rendre à la clinique (même si ça reste plutôt rare). Il n’y a pas de règle ou de systématisme, donc rien n’est bloquant, mais il est importants d’avoir ces infos en tête !
Attention, demandez aussi aux cliniques quelle est leur politique de conservation du sperme. Certaines cliniques appliquent en effet une « sperm quarantine » (mise en quarantaine du sperme) de 3 mois ou 6 mois (pour éviter les risques d’infection). C’est-à- dire qu'ils conservent le sperme en quarantaine et qu'ils attendent ce délai avant de fertiliser les ovocytes pour faire des embryons. C’est une info à prendre en compte car cela peut retarder tout le process, en fonction du moment auquel le don est fait !
>Bien étudier les « packages ». Certaines cliniques proposent des packages « embryon garanti » ou « naissance garantie » ou « plusieurs naissances garanties ». Cela peut être tentant, et cela est parfois une bonne idée ! Avant de vous engager, prenez simplement le temps de comparer ces offres car parfois, selon les formules, l'offre « à la carte » ne coûte pas forcément plus cher selon les possibilités envisagées. Cela dépend des cliniques, car certaines proposent des packages vraiment avantageux, et d’autres pas nécessairement !
>Avant de vous rendre au Canada pour faire le don de sperme à la clinique, nous vous recommandons vivement de faire un spermogramme là où vous vivez (qui peut être prescrit par un médecin, et cela se fait dans un laboratoire) pour évaluer la qualité et les
« performances ». Cela permet aussi d'avoir le temps de rectifier les choses à temps si la qualité n'est pas au top ! Dans le cas d’un couple gay dont les deux hommes souhaiteraient faire des embryons, cela peut aussi influer sur l’ordre des choses, pour éviter les déconvenues (sachant que les enjeux financiers peuvent être importants...). Donc autant mettre toutes les chances de son côté !
